Nurse Manager – Maternity Services

Job Purpose

To provide safe, evidence-based, compassionate, and family-centered midwifery care to women throughout pregnancy, labor, childbirth, and the postnatal period. The Registered Midwife is responsible for promoting normal childbirth, recognizing complications, providing emergency interventions when required, and ensuring the safety and wellbeing of both mother and newborn in accordance with DHA regulations, UAE standards, and hospital policies.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care

  • Provide comprehensive antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care.
  • Assess, monitor, and document maternal and fetal wellbeing.
  • Support and promote normal physiological childbirth.
  • Conduct vaginal examinations and monitor labor progress.
  • Perform and interpret fetal heart monitoring (CTG).
  • Assist with normal vaginal deliveries within the approved scope of practice.
  • Identify high-risk pregnancies and promptly escalate concerns to the Obstetrician.
  • Prepare mothers for operative deliveries when required.
  • Monitor mothers and newborns during the immediate post-delivery period.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to obstetric emergencies.

Newborn Care

  • Perform immediate newborn assessments.
  • Support neonatal adaptation following birth.
  • Promote skin-to-skin contact and early breastfeeding.
  • Monitor newborn health and identify abnormalities requiring medical intervention.

Patient Education

  • Educate mothers and families on:
    • Pregnancy health
    • Labor and delivery
    • Breastfeeding
    • Newborn care
    • Family planning
    • Postnatal recovery
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families throughout the childbirth journey.

Quality & Patient Safety

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Comply with infection prevention and control standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Report incidents, near misses, and patient safety concerns.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with Obstetricians, Neonatologists, Anesthetists, Nurses, and allied health professionals.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds.
  • Support junior staff and students where applicable.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain professional registration and licensure.
  • Complete mandatory education and competency assessments.
  • Participate in continuing professional development (CPD).
  • Practice in accordance with UAE regulations, professional ethics, and hospital policies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Midwifery OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing with a recognized Midwifery qualification.
  • Valid DHA License or DHA Eligibility as a Registered Midwife.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • NRP certification is preferred.
  • ACLS certification is an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 4 years' post-qualification experience as a Registered Midwife in a maternity hospital or similar clinical setting.
  • Experience in Labor & Delivery is essential.

Working Conditions

  • Rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Exposure to emergency and high-acuity maternity situations.
  • Compliance with hospital infection control and occupational health policies.

License Requirement

Must hold a valid Dubai Health Authority (DHA) Registered Midwife License or DHA Eligibility Letter and meet the UAE Professional Qualification Requirements for Registered Midwives.
