Job Summary

The Consultant Obstetrician & Gynecologist (Laparoscopy) is responsible for providing consultant-level, evidence-based care in obstetrics, gynecology, and minimally invasive gynecologic surgery. The role includes diagnosing and managing a wide range of women's health conditions, providing comprehensive antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care, performing advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures, and ensuring compliance with Dubai Health Authority (DHA) regulations, hospital policies, and international clinical standards.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive consultant-level care in obstetrics and gynecology for both inpatient and outpatient services.
  • Diagnose and manage a wide range of gynecological conditions, including:
    • Uterine fibroids
    • Endometriosis
    • Ovarian cysts and benign ovarian tumors
    • Abnormal uterine bleeding
    • Pelvic inflammatory disease
    • Uterine prolapse and pelvic floor disorders
    • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
    • Infertility (within the scope of practice)
    • Menstrual disorders
    • Menopause-related conditions
  • Provide comprehensive obstetric care, including:
    • Pre-conception counseling
    • Antenatal care
    • High-risk pregnancy management
    • Labor and delivery management
    • Vaginal deliveries
    • Instrumental deliveries
    • Cesarean sections
    • Postnatal care
    • Management of obstetric emergencies
  • Perform advanced minimally invasive gynecologic procedures, including:
    • Diagnostic laparoscopy
    • Laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy
    • Laparoscopic salpingectomy
    • Laparoscopic treatment of ectopic pregnancy
    • Laparoscopic myomectomy
    • Laparoscopic hysterectomy
    • Laparoscopic adhesiolysis
    • Excision of endometriosis
    • Diagnostic and operative hysteroscopy
    • Endometrial polypectomy
    • Hysteroscopic myomectomy
    • Endometrial ablation (where indicated)
  • Perform gynecologic surgeries, including abdominal and vaginal procedures, where clinically indicated.
  • Conduct cervical cancer screening, colposcopy, and cervical biopsy as appropriate.
  • Request and interpret laboratory investigations, ultrasound examinations, CT/MRI scans, pathology reports, and other diagnostic studies.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on current evidence-based clinical guidelines.
  • Refer patients to subspecialists when clinically appropriate.

Patient Care

  • Counsel patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment options, surgical risks, fertility implications, pregnancy care, and preventive health.
  • Obtain informed consent before surgical procedures.
  • Promote women's health through preventive screening and patient education.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and maintain ethical and professional standards.

Multidisciplinary Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Neonatology, Anesthesiology, Radiology, Oncology, Urology, General Surgery, Endocrinology, Internal Medicine, Physiotherapy, and Nursing teams.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, tumor boards (where applicable), and complex case discussions.
  • Coordinate continuity of care with referring physicians and primary care providers.

Quality & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, complete, and timely electronic medical records.
  • Ensure compliance with DHA regulations, hospital policies, infection prevention protocols, and international best practices.
  • Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, morbidity and mortality meetings, and patient safety programs.
  • Report adverse events and surgical complications in accordance with hospital policy.

Academic & Professional Development

  • Participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME) and maintain professional competency.
  • Stay updated with advances in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and obstetric care.
  • Teach, mentor, and supervise specialists, residents, interns, and allied healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in clinical research and departmental educational activities where applicable.

Qualifications

  • Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
  • Completion of an accredited residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology.
  • Board Certification or equivalent Consultant qualification recognized by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).
  • Fellowship or advanced training in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (Laparoscopy) is highly preferred.
  • Valid DHA Consultant Obstetrics & Gynecology License or eligibility for Consultant licensing in Dubai.
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of post-board certification experience as a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynecologist.
  • Demonstrated expertise in advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures.
  • Experience in managing high-risk obstetric cases and complex gynecologic surgery in a tertiary care hospital is preferred.
